Eric
De Gama, a graduate of Yale University, performed in
New York City with Playwrights’ Horizons, Theatre Studio
Inc., Mint Theatre Company, Friends Theatre Company, Royston
Theatre Company, and played lead roles in works by Anton
Chekhov, Moliere, Eugene O’Neil, Clifford Odets, T.S.
Eliot, W.B. Yeats and new plays by contemporary playwrights
in venues ranging from the Brooklyn Academy of Music to
the La Mama, ETC. Eric has directed and assisted directed
several plays as well as writing and performing in his
own theatre pieces.
He studied with among others, Uta Hagen, John Uecker,
Nancy Gabor, incorporating in his training a wide range
of approaches: Method, Sensory, Meisner, Improvisation,
Ensemble Technique, Script Analysis, Movement and Voice.
Eric studied film acting in Los Angeles with Steve Eastin
and Jeremiah Comey. He has taught for the Theatre of
Hearts Artist-in-Residence Program and Jeremiah Comey
Studios.
De Gama Studio technique
is a distillation of Eric’s extensive training. His teaching
philosophy is best reflected in the words of Meryl Streep:
“I am interested in flying, not thinking.” – an advanced
approach focusing on the intuition, imagination, and
unique personality of the actor to create immediate,
vibrant, and truthful performances
